these are the eyes of disarray

I have a new cast and its really hard to type.  Deal with it. This is gonna be a short one.

Last weekend, I shaved Simons head for Him, as I do on a regular basis during the summer.

As I was doing it, I had a craving, a deep desire, to hand Him the clippers and let Him shave mine when I was done.

My luxurious red hair has always been a source of pride and vanity for me.  Lately though, it's lost its fire, and I have to color it artificially in order to be satisfied with it.

In addition, the chemo I'm on has made it start thinning in odd places, I've cut it and changed the part and done everything i could to keep it pretty.

But my intolerance to heat of any kind makes any attempt to maintain a nice hairdo an exercise in futility.  I blow dry and flat iron it and it looks great....until I start sweating, which happens spontaneously and for no particular reason.  Then it gets all curly and weird looking.

As I watched a contestant on Top Chef shave her head with joy and total abandon a few weeks ago, I felt jealous.  I thought she really had some 'balls' and wondered how GOOD it must feel not to have all that hot weight on your head all summer.

Even if I hate the look, I can console myself with the fact that it will grow back.  Eventually.

Any of you ladies here ever considered it?  Do you think I should?  Simon's willing to do the deed, and even indicated it might turn Him on to do so.  (thats a huge plus in my book.)

To shave or not to shave, that is the question.....and your opinions are welcome.

Hmmm.

I dunno.  Simon may get off on shaving your head, but hows he gonna feel looking at it for the next half year?

If he doesn't care, and you don't really care...then why not?

If you do it...better post pics, or I won't believe it.

I say yes. Shave it all off.

But ... yes there's a but .. but only if you have a nicely shaped head. I used to be vain about my hair and one day I decided to just shave it all off. I grabbed the clippers and took it all off then grabbed the razor and shaved the rest all off. Damn, if I wasn't uglier than sin. My head is shaped funny. It felt really great and I know it's easier for a guy. Sometimes I feel like doing it again but .. yes another one .. but I wonder what Rose will think.

Sinead O'Connor can pull it off.

If she can, you can too.

Two summers ago I was out East helping BlueDev and his family move, and he convinced me to shave mine (being a head shaver himself).

He looks good and normal that way.

I, however, do not.

Instead, I'm now the hairiest I've ever been in my life. It's like six inches long.

Now that is BOLD.

I wouldn't myself. I would NOT be attractive (as if I am with my full head of hair, haha).

I think it could go either way for you. It could be really empowering and cool. You might really enjoy rocking a pretty edgy look.

Or you might feel a lot of remorse and depression once the newness wore off and you were missing your crowning glory.

Goodness, if you do you're a brave woman!  From my personal experience of being almost bald, I never go all the way, usually I leave some hair on my head.  I did it when I was 18, I had a lot of hair, it was too hot and bothered and I wanted a new look so I did it and my mom was not pleased that I had done it!

At the time it was cute, I was cute, that's because I was young! LOL!  A year or Two years ago, (can't remember!) as you know, I trimmed my hair, or had a hair cut at the salon, pretty darn short, longer in front, shaved at the back. I just didn't like it because my head is not as cute as it used to be!lol!  Finally after a year, it's finally growing back!

I went through a stage of very, very, very, slow hair growth, it was horrible (I think because I'm older now and my hair is so much thinner)!  I don't have a nice shaped head either, plus I didn't realise I had a slight indention at the base of my skull so the shaved look, thank God it wasn't all off or else it would have been a nightmare!  So yes, do it if you wish, but really, really, think about it!

While I do often shave my head during the Summer months, I've never found it to be a great look on most women I've seen who have. But hell, it's your noggin.

I say go with a super short pixie cut.  Head shaving will always be the look of Britney Spears losing it to me.  That said, I have to say that I've had the urge to just say - to heck with it but would I ever be able to actually do it?  I don't think so, not by choice.

If there's one thing I've learned about you over the last few years, it's that you are happiest when entertaining your cravings.  I probably wouldn't cheer most women on,(and Brandie, if you shaved your beautiful hair, I'd have to come down to Texas and correct your attitude! ;~D)  but for you, Sabrina... I say...

shave it! SHAVE IT! SHAVE IT! SHAVE IT! SHAVE IT!!

Great and thoughtful commentary from all of you, thanks!

When i can take this blasted splint off for a few hours in the morning, I'll respond to you all individually, as every one of you has raised interesting points.

The question I'll ask now though is this--how do you KNOW if you have a 'nice shaped head' until you do the deed?

Oh and....wooT fer me! I just noticed I hit my desired 100 karma points. Thanks all!

Now, where can I trade 'em in for a pint of chocolate milk?

I'd say shave yo' head. When you are living as the person you truly want to be, you cannot help but radiate beauty.

Besides, I'll grow back if you don't like it.

Nah, don't do it. Put in a landing strip instead.

That's a tough one. As I am a guy, I can't really advise you completely; but as a person who takes a weird sort of pride in my hair, I can. Firstly, I can tell you a shaved head feels great compared to the long thick hair I normally keep. It feels cooler, much lighter, and it cuts shower time in half. (I have really thick hair.) However, going to a shaved head from hair about halfway down my back (I gave my dad the honors of scalping me), I never really felt like myself. (And I was stuck with it (at least very short hair) for years, not because it wouldn't grow back, but because my hair doesn't really start laying down until it is about 5-6 inches long...just picture that.) Years later, I've finally had the patience to let it grow back almost to where it was and I am finally feeling like myself again. It is amazing how much we identify with our hair. (Actually, that is why Japanese animation characters have such different hairstyles and colors, it helps the audience differentiate the characters better.)

Also, keep in mind that head stubble can catch on pillow cases. No more luxuriously sliding/turning your head in bed, you'll be moving the pillow.

Oh yeah, that actually can be a entertaining point when you've decided to do it. You can make a quick stop by mohawk-ville and Krishna(sp?)-land for kicks.
