I must admit, its a nice law but until the companies want to change (which they don't... people < money to them) then areas that enforce these rules just won't have fast food. Granted, I don't really like fast food (besides Wendy's) so we carry-out from restaraunts instead (which yes, requires walking in).

Overall, a good idea, but would be fought tooth and nail by the fast food companies.

Basically just responding here not to offer my opinion since I've done without drive thrus for quite a while now (as well as nearly every other modern convenience you can list), but mainly to tell you, Sabrina, that we shall arrive in Norfolk on Aug 1.  YAY!

I can..go to the bank, buy dinner, pick up stamps, and get a coffee witout having to take off my pajamas!  Or wear shoes!

Waiting in line at the bank for instance, in the van the kids can watch tv, color, do whatever, inside the bank, in line...well someone is gonna get beat.

Now before people start saying "Teach them how to act in public."  I will say, I do and they do know how.  But they are KIDS and standing quietly in line for up to a half hour is not age appropriate behavior for a 5 year old.

I could give up some drive thrus though.  Fast food...yeah, no problem.

Liquor store....oh ok, if I must. buwhahahaha

And I guess if I really have to cut close to home I could cut out drive-thru weddins.  But I won't lie, it'll be difficult.

But not the bank, the post office, or any place like that which involves people who are by their job description snotty....forget about it.

San Chon, I wish our communities were more walkable.  In my home town, I could walk to the library, the school, the post office, church, the store.  Where I live now I would be taking my life into my hands to do that.  I live in suburbia and there are no cross walks, sidewalks etc.  I really think that anyone who is planning new communities or revamping old ones should consider a walking community to be the goal.  Think about the zoning with nothing being left in the downtowns and everything being out on the highway.  That's the way most small towns seem to be now anyway. 

Actually if I ever move that would be a big consideration for me.  I hate that my kids are under my feet all summer because they can't go outside of our neighborhood because of the busy traffic, no sidewalk, no crosswalk issue. 

55 mph would kill me on a road trip.  BFD is already a good 14 hour drive...and that's with 70 or 75 mph the majority of the way.  55 would make the trip too difficult to do on a long weekend....although with gas prices on the rise.....

Great offering, as usual!  I support closing down drive through windows myself, I rarely -- if ever --  use them.  I also support people driving slower.  I just am not so sure we should make these laws.  I think that use of cruise control is a very good idea, as well.  People can save an enormous amount of gasoline on open highways with that little device.

I am one who remembers the 55mph spped limit. I don't remember if I was driving but I sure was riding and listening to my dad bitch and bitch about the speed limit on our little road trips.
